Mahindra Thar Roxx Vs. Standard Thar: 5 Major Changes

The Mahindra Thar Roxx, a 5-door variant of the Thar, is set to debut on August 15. The Indian automaker has started teasing this new SUV, showcasing its extended exterior design. Here are the five key differences that distinguish the Thar Roxx from the standard Thar.

One of the most noticeable changes is the redesigned grille. Mahindra has replaced the smaller six-slat grille of the three-door model with a bolder design for the Thar Roxx. This new grille also features a front camera, suggesting a possible 360-degree setup.

Exterior Features

The Thar Roxx will sport new LED headlights and C-shaped LED DRLs that wrap around them, replacing the halogen headlights found on the current 3-door Thar. Additionally, it will feature 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels instead of the monotone ones on the three-door version. The wheel arches have also been squared off, differing from the rounded ones on the standard model.

Another significant difference is in its wheelbase. The elongated wheelbase of the Thar Roxx allows for additional doors and likely more legroom for an extra row of seats. This makes it distinct from its three-door counterpart.

Interior and Safety Features

Although Mahindra has not yet revealed the interior of the longer-wheelbase SUV, recent spy shots show a beige-coloured cabin theme. Expected features include a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, and a push start/stop button.

The safety features are anticipated to be comprehensive as well. They are likely to include six airbags as standard, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Engine Options

The upcoming Thar Roxx will use the same petrol and diesel engines as available on the standard Thar but with likely improved outputs. It will offer a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine, both available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations are expected to be offered.

The rear profile hasn't been fully teased yet; however, glimpses reveal LED tail lights with an inverted 'C’ motif. The squared-off wheel arches further differentiate it from the rounded housings on the three-door model.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to start at Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It aims to be a larger alternative to vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny while directly competing with models such as the 5-door Force Gurkha.
