Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater Could Soon Become A Reality – Hyundai Alcazar In Trouble?

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV quickly gained traction in the Indian automobile market, making it one of the more popular choices in the highly competitive C-segment SUV category in the country.

Now, Maruti Suzuki has trademarked two new names, out of which, one of the two names is likely to be used for the upcoming 7-seater version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV. The two newly trademarked names include Escudo and Torqnado.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

If launched, the 7-seater version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will directly compete against the Hyundai Alcazar SUV, which in turn is based on the Grand Vitara's primary rival, the Hyundai Creta SUV.

Speaking about the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater, we expect this upcoming model to be longer and taller than the standard Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV. This change is essential to make the 3rd row habitable.

These changes will make the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater slightly heavier than the standard Grand Vitara. As such, it is logical to expect the Grand Vitara 7-seater to come with a slightly more powerful engine.

However, using a new engine in the upcoming Grand Vitara 7-Seater is a more complex procedure as it involves testing, developing, and refining the new powertrain. Furthermore, the company also have to invest a lot in making necessary changes to the manufacturing plant as well.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid

Looking at this downside from a business perspective, we expect the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater to use the same powertrain option as the standard Grand Vitara SUV in India - A Mild-Hybrid and a Strong Hybrid engine.

The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol mild-hybrid engine produces a total of 102bhp and 135Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the Strong Hybrid engine uses a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, Atkinson-cycle, petrol engine along with an electric motor to produce 114bhp.

Also, thanks to the electric motor (78bhp and 144Nm of torque), the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara can run on all-electric mode for a distance of 25km - A feature that is extremely useful in congested cities and for short commutes.

Thoughts About The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater

When launched, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater will directly compete against the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar SUV, and the MG Hector Plus SUV. Also, the launch of this model will welcome more premium customers for the Indo-Japanese automaker in the country.
