Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance Launched At Rs 1.95 Crore - F1 Tech For Indian Roads
German luxury carmaker Mercedes has launched the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance sedan in India. The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance is priced at Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom) and is the 14th and final product launch for the German marque for this calendar year.
The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance is the most potent version of the C-Class sedan and it features a rather controversial powertrain. Gone is the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine of the previous generation car and in its place is a plug-in hybrid powertrain which features a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor.

However, this is no ordinary powerplant as the engine is the most powerful production four-cylinder unit ever. This revised version of the A45 S's 2.0-litre turbocharged engine features an electric motor powered exhaust gas turbo, tech from the firm's F1 team, which pushes the output of the engine to a blazing 469bhp.
This engine is paired with an electric motor that adds another 201bhp to the final output pushing it to 671bhp with the torque figure peaking at an astronomical 1,020Nm. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox while the electric motor also features a two-speed transmission. The electric motor on the new C 63 S E-Performance draws power from a compact 6.1kWh battery pack mounted in the boot that weighs 89 kilos.
Despite tipping the scales at 2,111 kilogrammes, the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance takes off like a bat out of hell when you press the loud pedal. The performance version of the C-Class sprints from 0-100km/h in just 3.3 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. However, this can be lifted to 279km/h.
The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance offers multiple driving modes ranging from Electric to Race and a Drift Mode for those who love to go sideways. The Electric mode limits the car to a top speed of just 124km/h.
Once the battery charge depletes, the car switches to Comfort mode which prefers EV running when charge allows but switches over to hybrid mode when required. Next comes battery hold, which is the same as comfort but allows the driver to set the limit for pure EV running.
Next come Sport and Sport+ modes that ramp up the motor's performance levels to 60 and 80 per cent of its maximum potential respectively while sharpening the response from the throttle pedal. Race mode is used for maximum performance and this also ramps up the regen to ensure that the battery gets charged up quickly.
However, it is only with Boost mode, activated using a button on the steering wheel, that you can access the motor's full potential. There is also a Slippery mode for low-grip conditions and finally an "Individual" mode, that allows the driver to tailor all the settings to his/her liking.
In terms of its design, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance looks like an extremely angry version of the C-Class with aggressive front and rear bumpers, a large Panamericana grille, a wider body kit, 20-inch alloy wheels and quad exhaust tips.
The interiors of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E-Performance feature quite a bit of Alcantara along with carbon fibre, an AMG sports steering wheel, a dual display setup for the instrumentation and an MBUX-powered infotainment screen which is connected to a Burmeister premium sound system.
