MG ES5 Electric SUV Unveiled: Boasts World's Thinnest Battery Pack & Much More
MG Motor has unveiled the ES5 electric SUV, boasting what it claims to be the world's thinnest battery pack. This new model is set to replace the MG ZS electric SUV in several markets, including Europe. The ES5 is part of MG's global strategy, though its introduction in India remains uncertain.
The ES5 is built on the Nebula platform, a new EV architecture developed by SAIC, MG's parent company. This platform accommodates vehicles with a wheelbase up to 3,100mm and batteries as long as 2 metres. It also supports future advancements like solid-state batteries and autonomous driving technology.
MG ES5: Design and Specifications
The ES5 features a sleek front design with elements reminiscent of other MG models such as the Cyberster and MG 4 hatchback. Measuring 4.4 metres in length, 1.8 metres in width, and 1.6 metres in height, it offers a wheelbase of 2,730mm—surpassing the ZS EV's 2,585mm.
This SUV is equipped with a single-motor rear-wheel drive system delivering 167hp and 250Nm of torque. It can reach speeds up to 170kph and accelerates from 0-100kph in just 8 seconds.
Battery Options and Range
MG will offer the ES5 with three battery sizes for international markets. Although specific capacities are yet to be disclosed, expected ranges are approximately 425km, 515km, and 525km respectively.
In India, MG plans to introduce several new models over the coming years through a premium sales channel. However, there is no confirmation yet if the ES5 will be part of this lineup.
The ES5's design includes modern touches that align with MG's latest offerings. Its bumper and headlamp shapes share similarities with newer models like the Cyberster.

As MG continues to expand its electric vehicle portfolio globally, the ES5 represents a significant step forward in their strategy. However, despite the uncertainity related to India launch, if the model reaches the Indian market, we expect the model to carry a different moniker.
