Mustang GTD Story Accelerates Into Summer With Online Series, European Debut
Ford's Mustang GTD is set to make its European debut this summer, starting with the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. The high-performance vehicle will also appear at the 24 Hours of Spa and the Goodwood Festival of Speed before a timed run at the Nürburgring Nordschleife later this year.
The Mustang GTD has undergone extensive testing in North America, including laps at Sebring International Raceway and Virginia International Raceway. According to Greg Goodall, Chief Program Engineer for Mustang GTD, the car aims to complete a lap of the Nürburgring in under seven minutes. The next phase involves dedicated test sessions on European roads.
Accompanying its European debut, a new online series will explore the advanced technologies behind the Mustang GTD. Using computer-generated renderings, the series will highlight features such as its supercharged V8 engine, which targets over 800 horsepower, and its sophisticated suspension system. Fans can follow updates on various social media platforms and Ford’s official website.
The application window for North American consumers closed on May 21, with over 7,500 applications received for the 2025 and 2026 model years. Notably, more than 20 percent of website traffic came from the motorsport community. Among individual applicants, one in four are current Mustang owners, while one in five own a competitor’s high-performance vehicle.
European Market Interest
Jim Owens, Brand Manager for Mustang GTD, noted that the vehicle has garnered significant interest from both existing Mustang owners and those who own rival sports cars. The car's race-derived performance has resonated well with potential buyers. Details regarding European applications will be announced in June.
