Nissan Z GT4 Achieves Historic Victory At Sebring With Blackdog Racing
In a thrilling weekend at Sebring, Florida, the Nissan Z NISMO GT4, piloted by the skilled duo of Tony Gaples and Max Root for Blackdog Speed Shop, clinched its first class win in the 2024 Pirelli GT4 America championship. This victory marks a significant milestone for the Nissan Z NISMO GT4 program in America, demonstrating the vehicle's competitive edge and performance capabilities. The achievement is not just a win on the track but a testament to the dedication and passion of the teams and drivers behind the Nissan Z NISMO GT4.
The weekend races were a showcase of speed and strategy, with Nissan teams securing pole positions and recording fast laps across both rounds. The #9 Blackdog Speed Shop Nissan Z NISMO GT4's triumph on Sunday afternoon was particularly noteworthy, being the first for the model in the American series. The car's journey to victory began in the 2023 season with TechSport Racing fielding a two-car team, which was soon followed by Blackdog Speed Shop and Flying Lizard Motorsports acquiring their own Nissan GT4 cars, doubling Nissan's presence for 2024.
Tony Gaples expressed his pride in achieving this milestone, highlighting the significance of being a veteran racer and accomplishing a first for both Nissan and Blackdog. Max Root echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the special nature of their win for Nissan in the series. Mike Carcamo, program director at Nissan Motor Corporation, dedicated this inaugural win to all Nissan employees, dealers, and fans who have supported their performance-driven endeavors.
The race weekend was not without its challenges. The first race saw Johnathan Neudorf of TechSport Racing leading impressively before a post-race technical inspection disqualified their car for being underweight. Despite this setback, the #9 Blackdog Speed Shop Nissan Z NISMO GT4 managed a podium finish in the ProAm class.
Race two witnessed Root taking an early lead from pole position, setting the fastest race lap before handing over to Gaples. Despite a full course caution that neutralized their advantage, Gaples maintained the lead to secure the class win. Other notable performances included Stephens and Neudorf taking third in the Silver class and valuable points earned by Flying Lizard Motorsports in both races.
Looking ahead, the 2024 Pirelli GT4 America championship promises more excitement with seven double-header weekends scheduled at some of North America's most challenging racetracks. With races planned across iconic venues like Circuit of the Americas and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, fans can expect more thrilling action as privateer teams battle it out in this highly competitive series.
All races are broadcast live on the SRO Motorsports GTWorld YouTube channel, allowing fans worldwide to follow the action as it unfolds. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how the Nissan Z NISMO GT4 continues to perform against its rivals on some of America's most demanding circuits.
