Renault R5 E-Tech: A Modern Twist to a Classic Model
Renault aims to compete with Chinese manufacturers in European markets with its latest electric car, the Renault R5 E-Tech. This stylish city commuter is priced competitively at approximately 25,000 euros for the base version (roughly Rs 22.50 lakh), positioning it to challenge Chinese rivals head-on.
The R5 E-Tech draws inspiration from Renault's iconic R5 and Super 5 models from the 1970s and 1980s, which collectively sold nine million units between 1972 and 1996. With vertical lights and vibrant body colors, but it's not just a retro throwback. Instead, Renault aims to attract the modern, discerning buyer with specific needs from an electric vehicle.

Renault R5 E-Tech Specs:
Scheduled for an official launch in the second half of 2024, the initial version of the R5 E-Tech will feature a 52-kilowatt hour (KWh) battery providing a claimed range of 400 kilometers. This variant precedes the more affordable 40KWh version with a range of 300 kilometers which will be sold later on.
One of the standout features of the R5 E-Tech is its support for bidirectional charging, allowing owners to sell excess energy back to the grid. Additionally, it features V2L (vehicle-to-load) charging capabilities.
Renault stated that the car weights less than 1500 kilograms, along with a spacious cargo area of 326 liters, a wheelbase of 2540mm, and a flat floorbed. The vehicle also has a towing capacity of 500 kilograms.
Renault aims to position the R5 E-Tech as a modern and capable EV that could potentially revolutionize the electric vehicle market in Europe.
