Retail Car Sales October 2024 - Double Festival Bonanza
October 2024 was quite the celebration for the Indian car industry, with sales going through the roof for most car manufacturers thanks to both Dusshera and Diwali in the same month. Year-over-year sales rose by 32.38 per cent to 483,159 units compared to October 2023's 364,991 units.
Maruti Suzuki, the nation's largest carmaker, as usual, claimed the top spot selling a staggering 199,675 new cars in October 2024. Car sales for Maruti Suzuki rose by 35.13 per cent (51,913 units) compared to October 2023's 147,762 units.

South Korean carmaker Hyundai took the second spot on the retail sales charts selling 67,981 units last month. Hyundai's sales rose by 30.31 per cent (15,811 units) compared to the 52,170 units sold in October 2023.
Tata Motors, on the other hand, managed to wrangle back the third spot from Mahindra, selling 65,011 new cars last month. Tata's Y-o-Y sales numbers rose by 30.55 per cent (15,213 units) compared to October 2023 when the Mumbai-based marque sold 49,798 units.
The SUV craze was on a high last month, and SUV specialist Mahindra made the most of it selling 58,120 units in October, however, that wasn't enough for it to hold onto third place on the charts. Mahindra's Y-o-Y numbers rose by 55.91 per cent (20,843 units) compared to October 2023's 37,277 units.
Korean carmaker Kia rounded off the top 5 selling 28,612 new cars and SUVs last month, as per data released by FADA. Kia's sales grew by 30.3 per cent (6,654 units) Y-o-Y compared to October 2023, when the firm sold 21,958 units.
Toyota (28,121 units), Skoda VW India (8,571 units), Honda (7,087 units), MG (5,446 units) and Renault (4,431 units) rounded off the top 10 in terms of retail sales for October. Honda was the only carmaker in the top 10 to see its sales numbers in the red (down by 17.29 per cent), compared to October 2023 but with the carmaker readying itself for the arrival of the new Amaze, hopes are bright for a comeback in the near future.

The luxury segment also performed quite well with German firms Mercedes-Benz and BMW topping the tables. Mercedes sold 1,792 new cars in October, a 30.42 per cent (418 units) increase compared to October 2023.
BMW sold 1,475 units last month as it too cashed on the double festive bonanza with the Bavarian marque's Y-o-Y numbers rising by 26.61 per cent (310 units) compared to October 2023's 1,165 units.
