Toyota Alabama Celebrates Milestone With Ten Millionth Engine For New Tacoma Hybrid
Toyota Alabama has reached a significant milestone by assembling its 10-millionth engine, an i-Force MAX 2.4-liter, which will power the new hybrid Tacoma. The plant, established in 2001, is responsible for producing one-third of all Toyota engines in North America. "We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone and look forward to seeing where the next 10 million engines will take us," said Jason Puckett, president of Toyota Alabama.
The facility employs around 2,000 team members who assemble over 777,000 engines annually. Brandon French, senior manager of production at Toyota Alabama, remarked on his journey with the company: "When the plant opened with only one production line more than 20 years ago, I was a part of the team that helped start engine production in Alabama." He expressed pride in overseeing the i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbo engine line and being part of reaching this milestone from the beginning.
Toyota has been a key player in the U.S. automotive industry for over 65 years. The company is dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility through its Toyota and Lexus brands and nearly 1,500 dealerships. By employing over 49,000 people across nine manufacturing plants in the U.S., Toyota has contributed to designing and assembling more than 34 million vehicles.
Future Plans and Educational Initiatives
Looking ahead, Toyota plans to open its tenth plant in North Carolina by 2025 to produce automotive batteries for electrified vehicles. Currently offering 30 electrified vehicle options, Toyota leads other automakers in this segment. To inspire future generations towards STEM careers, including mobility fields, Toyota launched a virtual education hub at www.TourToyota.com. This platform offers immersive experiences and virtual tours of U.S. manufacturing facilities.
The educational hub also provides free STEM-based lessons and curriculum through partnerships with the Toyota USA Foundation. It includes virtual field trips aimed at engaging students in science and technology fields.
This milestone reflects Toyota's ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability while fostering educational opportunities for future generations.
