Volkswagen Debuts ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE In Tribute To Golf Mk2 With BOGNER
Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE at the ID. Meeting in Locarno, Switzerland. This unique model, developed with BOGNER, a Munich-based luxury sports fashion brand, pays homage to the iconic Golf Fire and Ice from the 1990s. The car features a distinctive 3-layer paint finish with glass bead effects and numerous interior details that echo its predecessor's design.
The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE boasts an exclusive 3-layer paint finish with a glass bead effect. The Electric Violet pearl effect colour was specially created for this model, reinterpreting the Golf Mk2 Fire and Ice's exterior paint. The three-coat paint includes special glass beads that create a unique colour effect, changing from dark blue to violet or even black depending on light incidence.
Andreas Mindt, Head of Design at Volkswagen, stated: "With the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE, we are emphasizing how highly emotional our sporty top model is. Our design team had incredible fun reinterpreting the iconic 90s design and thus developing it further."
The interior of the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE is divided into two colours: Flaming Red for 'FIRE' on the driver's side and ice blue for 'ICE' on the passenger side. The stainless steel accelerator pedals feature a special ‘FIRE+ICE’ design instead of the usual Play/Pause design seen in other ID. models. The upper part of the instrument panel and floor mats also showcase a laser-engraved ‘FIRE+ICE’ pattern.
Tom Becker, Director of BOGNER FIRE+ICE, commented: "The combination of our performance brand FIRE+ICE with the sporty ID.3 GTX is BOGNER's modern interpretation of the iconic Golf Fire and Ice. The special thing is that we were able to integrate many of our original materials and accessories into the interior of the vehicle."
Performance Specifications
The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE is powered by Volkswagen's most powerful electric motor to date, delivering 240 kW (326 PS) and a maximum torque of 545 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 200 km/h. The vehicle features a GTX-specific chassis with stronger stabilisers and Sport DCC adaptive chassis control.
The electric energy comes from a 79 kWh lithium-ion battery (net), which can be charged at DC fast-charging stations with up to 185 kW capacity. This allows for recharging from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes, offering a combined WLTP range of up to 601 km.
A Nod to History
The original Golf Mk2 Fire and Ice was launched in 1990 as an exclusive version combining sportiness and comfort. Designed in collaboration with fashion designer Willy Bogner, it featured dark violet pearl effect paint, alloy wheels, front spoiler, body extensions, and engines ranging from 90 to 160 PS. It became an unexpected hit with fans, selling 16,700 units despite an initial plan for only 10,000 units.
The new ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE continues this legacy by integrating modern electric vehicle technology with nostalgic design elements from its predecessor.
