Volkswagen Launches New Transporter And Caravelle: Bigger And Better Than Ever
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced the redesigned Transporter at IAA Transportation 2024. Visitors can explore the 7th generation of this popular model line at Hall 12 until 22 September. The new Transporter boasts more space, higher payload, and increased trailer weight. Enhanced safety features and a professional cockpit design make it ideal for daily use.
The Caravelle, a nine-seater Volkswagen bus, was also unveiled alongside the Transporter. Both models now offer plug-in hybrid and electric drive options in addition to turbocharged diesel engines. This marks a first in the history of these multifunctional vehicles.
Seven efficient drive versions will be available at launch. These include three turbocharged diesel engines (TDI), a plug-in hybrid drive (eHybrid), and three electric drives (e-Transporter and e-Caravelle). The TDI engines range from 81 kW (110 PS) to 125 kW (170 PS). The eHybrid offers a system power of 171 kW (232 PS).
The electric models come with power outputs of 100 kW (136 PS), 160 kW (218 PS), and 210 kW (286 PS). They feature a battery capacity of 64 kWh (net). The TDI models from 110 kW can be ordered with all-wheel drive, enhancing versatility.
The new Transporter is available in various configurations: panel van, crewbus, platform body, and Caravelle. The panel van focuses on goods transport, while the crewbus is designed for passenger transport. Both versions offer optional high roofs and extended wheelbases.
The Caravelle is tailored for commercial passenger transport and comes in entry-level, mid-range Life, and top-of-the-line Style versions. It is also available with an extended wheelbase for added flexibility.
Enhanced Payload Capacity
The panel-van Transporter with a normal wheelbase now offers over 10% more stowage volume, reaching 5.8m3. With a long wheelbase and high roof, this increases to 9.0m3. The maximum payload has been boosted to 1.33 tonnes, an increase of 0.13 tonnes.
The maximum trailer weight has also been raised by 0.3 tonnes to reach up to 2.8 tonnes on a braked trailer with a 12% gradient. These improvements make the new Transporter more capable than ever before.
Iconic Design DNA
The new Transporter's design remains true to its iconic predecessors while introducing fresh elements. This clear and striking exterior design ensures it stands out on the road while maintaining its heritage.

Ergonomic High-Tech Cockpit
The redesigned cockpit landscape combines digital displays with robust hardkeys for ease of use in any situation. Various USB and 12V sockets are integrated, along with up to three 230V sockets in hybrid and electric models.
