Volvo Rolls Out Enhanced User Experience In XC90 And Beyond Worldwide

Volvo Cars aims to simplify complexity, enhancing daily life with their vehicles. This philosophy guided the creation of the new infotainment system in the all-electric EX90 and EX30 models. Now, this approach extends to the celebrated Volvo XC90 SUV.

The upgraded user experience will not be limited to a single model. Volvo plans to deliver this latest user experience to millions of drivers worldwide through an over-the-air software update. By 2025, around 2.5 million customers globally will receive this upgrade on their Volvo cars built as early as 2020.

Volvo's New Infotainment Upgrade

"Our new-generation user experience will deliver a significant improvement in customer experience and is an important step in our journey to delivery human-centric technology solutions to our customers," says Erik Severinson, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Volvo Cars. "We’ll continuously and seamlessly adapt the user experience to match the needs of our customers through new and enhanced features that are delivered through over-the-air updates, to improve your car – and your experience – over time."

The new infotainment system features a larger, 11.2-inch central screen with a 21% increase in pixel density for a crisper display. The home screen now presents common apps and controls like maps, media, and phone, similar to the setup in Volvo's latest electric cars. This reduces the number of taps needed to access frequently used features.

For instance, changing music while following navigation directions no longer requires leaving Google Maps; the media feature is readily accessible. The contextual bar adapts based on the situation, displaying recently used apps or icons like outside cameras when driving at low speeds for easier manoeuvring.

Adaptability Across Models

The new user experience can be scaled to fit different screen shapes and sizes. This ensures that whether you drive a new XC90, an EX90, or a three-year-old XC40, you can enjoy the latest Volvo Cars infotainment experience. This adaptability helps drivers focus on what truly matters: the road ahead.

If you drive a plug-in hybrid, accessing 'Pure' mode alongside other options via 'Drive Modes' on the home screen is now simpler. For example, switching to electric power only when entering a town centre is just a tap away.

Volvo Cars' Commitment

This roll-out aligns with Volvo's strategy of improving cars over time through regular over-the-air software updates. The company believes this is one of the most comprehensive infotainment updates by any car maker so far.

Volvo Cars was founded in 1927 and has grown into one of the most respected car brands globally, selling vehicles in over 100 countries. In 2023, Volvo Car Group recorded a core operating profit of SEK 25.6 billion with revenue reaching SEK 399.3 billion and global sales hitting 708,716 cars.

The company's purpose is "For life," aiming to provide personal, sustainable, and safe mobility solutions. This mission includes becoming a fully electric car maker and reducing its carbon footprint with an ambition to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

As of December 2023, Volvo Cars employed approximately 43,400 full-time employees worldwide. The company's head office is located in Gothenburg, Sweden, with production plants in Gothenburg; Ghent (Belgium); South Carolina (US); Chengdu; Daqing; and Taizhou (China).
