FASTag Annual Pass Price, Availability, Eligibility, & Savings Explained In Detail

The Indian government has introduced a new FASTag Annual Pass for private vehicles, priced at Rs 3,000. This pass is valid for one year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. It aims to reduce costs for private vehicle owners and ease congestion on highways. If you're considering purchasing this pass, here's what you need to know.

The FASTag annual pass is designed for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. Commercial vehicles will continue using the existing FASTag system. The annual pass will be available from August 15, 2025. It simplifies travel by requiring a one-time purchase each year, eliminating the need for frequent wallet recharges.

FASTag Annual Pass: Eligibility and Availability

Only national highways are covered under this initiative, as per the National Highways Fee (Amendment) Rules, 2025. State highways are excluded from this scheme. For example, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is eligible under the annual pass, but state highways like the Mumbai-Pune Expressway are not.

The annual pass can be purchased through official government channels such as the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI website starting mid-July. Once bought, it links to your existing FASTag and activates within two hours of purchase. Currently, it's not available on third-party platforms.

FASTag Annual Pass: Cost Savings

Regular highway users can save significantly with this pass. For instance, if you pay Rs 50 per toll for 200 trips annually, you'd spend around Rs 10,000. With the annual pass, this reduces to just Rs 3,000 or Rs 15 per toll. A trip from Mumbai to Bengaluru would cost about Rs 300 instead of Rs 1,500.

The government highlights that this initiative will help reduce wait times and disputes at toll plazas while addressing concerns about toll plazas within a 60 km range. However, it does not cover parking fees at malls or other paid parking areas.

FASTag Annual Pass: Who Should Buy?

If you frequently travel between 2,500-3,000 km annually on national highways, the pass offers substantial savings. However, if you rarely use toll roads outside city limits, sticking with the existing FASTag system might be more suitable.

This new system aims to streamline travel for frequent highway users while offering significant cost benefits over traditional toll payments.
