Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT Achieves Dual Awards At NWAPA Mudfest Outdoor Vehicle Of The Year Competition

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT has been honoured with two awards by the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) at the 2025 Mudfest Outdoor Vehicle of the Year competition. This all-electric compact vehicle excelled in two categories: Best Electrified Activity Vehicle and Best Two-Row Family SUV. The event involved rigorous testing of 21 crossovers, SUVs, and pickups over two days.

During the NWAPA's annual Mudfest, 19 journalists evaluated vehicles on both paved and off-road terrains at The Ridge Motorsports Park in Sheldon, Washington. The first day focused on performance aspects like acceleration, handling, braking, and ride quality on paved roads. On the second day, vehicles were tested for off-road capabilities such as traction, suspension articulation, and terrain-handling technologies.

The IONIQ 5 XRT is designed to challenge EV norms with its increased ground clearance, improved suspension, and rugged styling. Assembled at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia, this model enhances Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup by offering versatility for both highway driving and off-road adventures.

Tom Voelk, president of NWAPA, remarked on the vehicle's capabilities: "The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT is a well-rounded adventure vehicle. All-terrain tires and an inch of lift give it off-road readiness that delivers drivers to the good hiking trails. But it remains fun to sling around on city streets. Its useful size, solid range and blazing fast charging speed helped secure its dual win in the NWAPA Mudfest competition."

The IONIQ 5 XRT features exclusive design elements such as aggressively styled front and rear bumpers, robust side cladding, and all-terrain tires mounted on unique 18-inch alloy wheels. It also includes revised suspension tuning and elevated ride height to support active lifestyles.

The Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) is a professional group of automotive journalists from the Pacific Northwest and Southwest Canada. Established in 1991, NWAPA consists of 45 voting members from various media outlets who have been evaluating SUVs since the mid-1990s.
