Hyundai Motor Group Leads Industry With 15 IIHS Top Safety Awards In 2025
Hyundai Motor Group has once again demonstrated its commitment to vehicle safety by securing the highest number of awards in the 2025 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test evaluations. A total of 15 models from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis received either the TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) or TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) designations. This marks the second year in a row that the Group has achieved this distinction.
The IIHS has introduced stricter criteria for its 2025 crash tests, focusing on rear occupant protection. The updated moderate overlap front test now includes dummies representing 12-year-old children or small female passengers in the rear seats to better assess injury risks. Vehicles must achieve a "good" rating in this test for TSP+ and an "acceptable" rating for TSP.
To qualify for a TSP or TSP+ rating, vehicles must also perform well in other areas. They need "good" ratings in both small overlap front and updated side impact crash tests. Additionally, they must receive at least an "acceptable" rating in daytime and nighttime pedestrian front crash prevention evaluations. All trim levels must have headlights rated "acceptable" or better.
The Hyundai ELANTRA, SONATA, and Kia K4 were among those awarded the prestigious TSP+ rating. They join existing models like Hyundai's IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, KONA, TUCSON, and SANTA FE; Genesis' GV60, Electrified GV70, GV70, GV80; and Kia's EV9 and Telluride. The Genesis G90 holds a TSP rating.
