JSW Group To Enter Indian Car Market With Electric & Hybrid Vehicles
JSW Group is all set to launch its very own car brand by the end of 2026. The Indian company has been selling cars in partnership with MG Motor India since 2023, with JSW owning a 51% stake. The new company will focus on hybrid and electric vehicles. The reason behind this decision was to be independent and manufacture cars indigenously.
JSW Set to Enter Indian Car Market
JSW Group is already active in steel, energy, infrastructure, cement, and paint industries. They are also in partnership with SAIC-owned MG Motor India, and are selling ICE and EV-powered cars. JSW now wants to sell its own branded models in the domestic market. The company is in talks with multiple technology partners from countries such as China, Germany, and the UK.

According to several news reports, group chairman Sajjan Jindal said, "At JSW Motors, we are bringing the best technologies from all over the world, not only from China, but also from Germany, the UK, and elsewhere. We are trying to work with the best technologies. We are targeting to launch our first vehicle sometime in the third quarter of the next fiscal year."
Jindal also mentioned that the company plans to increase its shareholding in MG Motor India to increase its control. The passenger vehicle division, which will be called JSW Motors, will focus exclusively on vehicles powered by clean energy. As the Indian automobile market gradually shifts toward EVs, JSW Motors aims to target the hybrid and electric vehicle segments.
The electric vehicle market in India is currently led by brands such as Tata Motors, Mahindra, and MG Motor India. Other major carmakers like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are also planning to launch multiple EVs in the coming years.

Competition will be very high, and as a new player, manufacturing cars and batteries locally will help reduce costs and service. Therefore, JSW is planning to manufacture its own lithium-ion batteries, which will power both its passenger and commercial vehicles. Once partners are finalised, these batteries will be manufactured at their Nagpur facility.
JSW-backed MG Motor India is already selling successful models such as the MG Comet EV, MG Windsor EV, and MG Hector, and is reportedly the second-largest EV seller in the country after Tata Motors. We expect JSW to borrow many of MG's designs, Platforms, components, and EV powertrain technologies for its own brand.
