Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater: Expectations & Other Details
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to expand its SUV range with a new three-row version of the Grand Vitara. Known internally as Y17, this 7-seater model has been spotted undergoing tests near Maruti's plant. Its launch is anticipated around Diwali 2025, adding excitement to the festive season for car enthusiasts.
Moreover, the model has been spotted a few times wearing heavy camouflage. Despite that, the vehicle's extended length compared to the standard 5-seater model is evident. This additional length will allow for a third-row seating arrangement, making it more appealing to bigger families.

Design
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater will be longer than the current model, which measures 4,345 mm. However, it is expected to maintain the same wheelbase of 2,600 mm. The design changes aim to enhance practicality without altering the core structure significantly.
Features
Inside, buyers can expect updated interior themes and larger infotainment screens. The new model will also offer additional comfort features compared to its 5-seater counterpart. These enhancements are designed to provide a more premium experience for passengers.

Powertrain Options & Configurations
The Grand Vitara 7-seater will come with two engine options. The first is a 1.5L K15C mild-hybrid petrol engine delivering 103.06 PS and 136.8 Nm torque, available with both a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a 1.5L 3-cylinder strong-hybrid petrol engine producing 115.56 PS and 141 Nm torque, paired with an e-CVT gearbox.
Seating configurations will include both a 6-seater layout with captain seats and a traditional 7-seater setup. This flexibility aims to cater to varying customer preferences and needs.
Pricing & Market Competition
The Maruti Y17 is expected to start at around Rs 15 lakh. It will compete with models like Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus in the market. Toyota might also release a rebadged version under its brand name.

Suzuki has trademarked two potential names for this model: Escudo and Torqnado. One of these could become the official name for the Grand Vitara 7-seater upon its release.
Maruti's Strategic Positioning
With successful models like Brezza, Grand Vitara, and Fronx already in its lineup, Maruti aims to solidify its position in the competitive three-row SUV segment with this new addition. The Y17 Grand Vitara promises to enhance Maruti's presence in this growing market sector.
Interestingly, alongside the Grand Vitara test mule was another vehicle: the Maruti eVitara electric SUV currently under development. The size difference between these two models was noticeable in the spy shots.
