McLaren Americas Invests In New Vehicle Processing Center To Boost Local Economy In Baltimore
McLaren, The Americas is reinforcing its dedication to the US market with a significant investment in a new Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) at Tradepoint Atlantic, Port of Baltimore. This facility will span 50,000 square feet and incorporate advanced automotive technologies for processing McLaren supercars. The VPC is expected to open in late 2026, creating numerous jobs and boosting the local economy.
The US market holds the largest global volume for McLaren's luxury supercars. The new hub will be equipped with cutting-edge quality control systems and automotive technologies. It will serve as a custom auto processing and accessorizing center, enhancing McLaren's service offerings in the region.
The proposed VPC represents an investment exceeding $10.5 million in facilities and tooling. It will generate employment opportunities for skilled automotive technicians, logistics personnel, and management staff. Additionally, it will stimulate economic growth through increased vehicle transportation needs to McLaren retailers across the US.
Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore expressed enthusiasm about McLaren's arrival: "We are thrilled to welcome McLaren to the Great State of Maryland. Today, we mark the latest chapter in our work to grow our state’s economy by building out high-tech manufacturing in every corner of the state."
The VPC will occupy a four-acre site at Sparrows Point, previously home to Bethlehem Steel. Developed in partnership with Tradepoint Atlantic, this project aims to transform the area into a global industrial supply chain hub. Construction contracts were signed earlier this year, with completion anticipated by late 2026.
Kerry Doyle from Tradepoint Atlantic stated: "We are excited to welcome McLaren to the family of world-class businesses that have chosen Tradepoint Atlantic for their real estate and logistics solutions."
Commitment to Innovation and Quality
Nicolas Brown, President of McLaren, The Americas highlighted their commitment: "The new McLaren VPC will enable us to fully check and sign off every single car...with the additional bonus of helping to revitalize a brownfield site." This initiative aligns with McLaren's focus on innovation and delivering top-quality service.
Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier announced a $100,000 economic development incentive for this project. It is expected to create 20 full-time jobs at Sparrows Point by 2028.
Broader Investments in US Market
This announcement follows over $100 million invested by McLaren's retail network in new sales and servicing facilities across the US. These investments include opening the world's largest sales point soon in Orlando.
McLaren Automotive continues its legacy of producing high-performance supercars since its launch in 2010. Headquartered in Woking, England, it remains committed to innovation and excellence in vehicle manufacturing.
Tradepoint Atlantic offers strategic access to domestic and global markets through its multimodal logistics center in Baltimore. This partnership supports regional economic growth by redeveloping former industrial sites into thriving business hubs.
