Sub 4 Meter SUV Sales In India Rise By 9.15% In April 2025 - Brezza, Nexon & Fronx Lead 

In April 2025, the sub 4 meter SUV segment in India saw a notable year-on-year (YoY) growth of 9.15%, with sales reaching 1,02,845 units, an increase from 94,225 units in April 2024. This growth is attributed to the introduction of new models and an expanded product range, which continues to draw consumer interest.

Despite the annual growth, the segment experienced a month-on-month (MoM) decline of 8.76% from 1,12,714 units sold in March 2025. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza stood out by securing the number one spot on the sales chart, despite a slight YoY sales drop of 0.83%, selling 16,971 units in April 2025 and capturing a 16.50% market share.

Following the Brezza, the Tata Nexon recorded 15,457 unit sales, marking a substantial 38.40% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, the Maruti Fronx in third place, also showcased a marginal YoY growth of 0.41%, with 14,345 unit sales. This model has garnered attention for its safety, achieving a 4 Star rating in the Japan NCAP crash tests, especially excelling in the Advanced Automatic Emergency Call System (AECS) category with a perfect score.

The Tata Punch experienced a significant decline in demand, with sales falling 34.77% YoY to 12,496 units. Conversely, the Kia Sonet saw a modest increase of 2.11% YoY, selling 8,068 units, while the Hyundai Venue faced a 12.80% decrease in sales, totaling 7,953 units. Notably, the Mahindra XUV3XO enjoyed a remarkable 89.06% YoY growth, with sales jumping to 7,568 units from 4,003 in April 2024.

Among the newer entries, the Skoda Kylaq, Kia Syros, and Toyota Taisor added notable numbers to April 2025's sales, with 5,364, 4,000, and 2,421 units sold, respectively. However, the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger experienced decreased demand, in contrast to the Maruti Jimny, which saw a significant 67.70% YoY growth with 431 units sold.

On a MoM basis, the sub 4 meter SUV segment witnessed varied performance. The Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV3XO saw increases in demand, with 4.71% and 7.27% growth respectively, while the Hyundai Venue and Tata Punch faced sharp declines. The Skoda Kylaq managed a slight 0.69% MoM improvement, but the Kia Syros and Toyota Taisor suffered decreases in sales. The Maruti Jimny stood out with a robust 65.13% MoM sales increase.

Overall, the sub 4 meter SUV segment in India continues to evolve, with April 2025 showcasing both the challenges and opportunities within the market. The introduction of new models and the varying demand across different brands highlight the dynamic nature of the segment, driven by consumer preferences for compact, maneuverable vehicles suited to Indian road conditions.
