Tata Sierra Unveiled: Iconic SUV Returns After Over 2 Decades

Tata Motors has taken the wraps off the all-new Tata Sierra in India today, marking the return of the iconic nameplate after more than two decades. The SUV has been fully revealed ahead of its official market launch, with both exterior and interior details made public.

The Tata Sierra's exterior design blends retro touches from the original Sierra with modern styling cues. A gloss-black front surround encloses headlamps and connected DRLs, complemented by a silver skid plate on the lower air dam. Also seen is a "clamshell" bonnet.

Powertrain options have not been officially confirmed by Tata. Expected figures include a 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine producing 170 PS and 280 Nm, and a 1.5-litre diesel delivering 118 PS and 260 Nm. Both may be offered with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT.

Tata is due to announce pricing and detailed specifications on 25 November 2025. Early price projections indicate an ex-showroom range of approximately ₹12-20 lakh in India. The Sierra will compete with vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Speaking at the event, Martin Uhlarik, Vice President and Head of Global Design, Tata Motors and Executive Director of Tata Motors Design Tech Centre (TMDTC) said, "The Tata Sierra is much more than a name or a vehicle; it's a living symbol of Indian ingenuity and aspiration. For many, the Sierra evokes an everlasting longing-a silhouette glimpsed on the horizon, a feeling that lingers long after the journey ends. Today, that memory transforms into a bold vision for the future. With its timeless silhouette and indomitable spirit, the new Sierra pays homage to its roots while fearlessly embracing what lies ahead. Reimagining a legend is not simply an act of nostalgia, it's a testament to courageous design, innovation and the desire to create something that resonates across generations. The Sierra stands as living proof that design can honour heritage while daring to shape tomorrow."
