Toyota 'Innova Crysta Electric' Debuts With 700Nm Of Torque! All Details Here

Toyota is making strides towards carbon neutrality by developing new models, including the Innova BEV. At the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), Toyota unveiled the Kijang Innova BEV Concept. This fully-electric 7-seater MPV has undergone updates since its initial concept reveal in March 2022.

The 'Innova Crysta Electric' retains the same shape and panels as the diesel Kijang Innova available in Indonesia. However, it features sportier headlamps and DRLs, a top-mounted LED strip, a closed-off grille, and a revised bumper section. These changes give it a distinctive appearance.

In terms of design, the Innova BEV stands out with its body cladding and blacked-out pillars and roof. Its side profile is enhanced by multi-colour graphics. The MPV sports 16-inch alloy wheels, similar to those on the diesel variant in Indonesia. These rims are fitted with 215/65 tyres.

Additional exterior highlights include chrome-finished door handles and dual-tone ORVMs with integrated turn signals. At the rear, quirky wraparound tail lamps with an interconnecting LED strip add flair. 'BEV' badging is visible at both the rear and sides of the vehicle.

Inside, the cabin offers ample space designed for comfort and practicality. It combines advanced features with user-friendly equipment like physical buttons in most areas. The MPV includes a large touchscreen infotainment system alongside analogue dials with a MID in the instrument cluster.

The steering wheel is leather-wrapped with mounted switches for convenience. Other interior highlights include ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, a dual-tone theme, and captain seats in the middle row. Second-row passengers benefit from dedicated entertainment screens and multiple utility spaces.

The 7-seater Toyota Innova BEV Concept is powered by a 59.3 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. Unlike most modern EVs that use flat floor bed-mounted batteries, this model features several smaller modules on the floorboard and a larger unit in the engine bay.

The charger and inverter are positioned at the vehicle's rear side. The Innova BEV supports Type-2 AC and CCS-2 DC chargers, though details about range or charging time remain undisclosed.

Toyota's Broader Strategy

Toyota continues to focus on internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrids while exploring greener fuels like biofuels and hydrogen. In India, Toyota offers petrol, strong hybrid (Hycross), and diesel (Crysta) versions of the Innova, which accounts for nearly 24% of their sales.

While it's uncertain when or where production of the Innova BEV will commence or its launch prospects in India, Toyota remains committed to expanding its eco-friendly vehicle lineup globally.
