BMW’s First Fully Electric M Model To Launch In 2027
BMW is gearing up to introduce its first fully electric M branded performance model, set to arrive globally in 2027 as part of a broader transition to electrified high-performance vehicles.
The new electric M model will be the first production M car developed on BMW's next-generation Neue Klasse electric architecture, which supports high levels of performance, efficiency and scalable electric drivetrains.

The upcoming electric M model - widely expected to be an electric successor to the BMW M3 - marks the M division's move beyond hybrid and internal combustion performance cars into a pure battery-electric future. It will be the first in a new generation of high-performance electric vehicles engineered to deliver both track capability and everyday usability.
BMW has outlined that the transition to fully electric M cars will be built around the Neue Klasse EV platform, which will underpin multiple future models. The first of these electric M vehicles is scheduled to reach showrooms in 2027, with additional electrified M models expected to follow in subsequent years as the brand expands its electric performance portfolio.

The electric M model is expected to leverage the advanced powertrain and battery technologies inherent to the Neue Klasse architecture, including high-voltage systems and optimized energy density, which will allow for competitive performance figures and rapid charging capability.
While BMW has not yet released official specifications for the electric M model, automotive publications report that early test mules and development prototypes have been spotted, hinting at a performance target significantly above existing electric M-division hybrids.

One candidate for the title of BMW's first pure electric M performance car is an electric version of the BMW M3 performance sedan. Previous reports have indicated that an all-electric M3 - possibly branded internally as the iM3 - could feature a dual-motor drivetrain with power outputs in excess of 600 bhp, positioning it well above existing M3 and its competitors.
Beyond performance, the electric M model is expected to incorporate BMW's latest software and control systems to manage torque distribution, traction and dynamic responses in real time, maximizing both acceleration and handling precision. While details on battery size, range and final performance figures are yet to be revealed, BMW has confirmed that the move toward electrification will retain the M division's driving dynamics ethos, even as powertrains evolve.

With its global debut slated for 2027, BMW's first fully electric M model will expand the brand's performance lineup, complementing the existing M portfolio - including hybrids like the XM series - and signalling the M division's full commitment to electrified performance vehicles.
