India-Bound Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Showcased In Black Colourway - Could Get Fortuner Diesel

Toyota's upcoming Land Cruiser FJ has been showcased in a new black colour scheme ahead of its global rollout in Indonesia, with production already underway at the brand's Ban Pho plant in Thailand. Deliveries for the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ are scheduled to begin later this year, with additional markets to follow in phases.

The compact off-road Toyota Land Cruiser FJ SUV was first revealed at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show and will initially be offered with a petrol powertrain. Reports also indicate that diesel options are under consideration for select markets at a later stage.

At launch, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be powered by a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 163 hp and 246 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ - Fortuner Diesel Expected Later

A diesel engine option is reportedly being planned for the Land Cruiser FJ but is unlikely to arrive before 2029. The unit under consideration is the familiar 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel used in models such as the Fortuner, Hilux and Land Cruiser 250.

This engine produces 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque and can also be paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system in global markets. The electrified setup improves fuel efficiency, low-speed torque delivery and start-stop refinement. It is not yet confirmed whether the Land Cruiser FJ will receive the mild-hybrid version or the conventional diesel configuration.

Future powertrain options could also include strong-hybrid or plug-in-hybrid systems as emission regulations tighten in global markets.
