JSW Motors has invited dealership applications while showcasing a paper ad of the upcoming SUV, along with the tagline, "The Future is calling. Will you join the drive?", clearly signalling its intent to enter the Indian automotive market as an independent automobile brand. Jetour is owned by China's Chery Automobile, and its components are expected to be imported from China and locally assembled at JSW's facility in Maharashtra.

The Jetour T2 is positioned as a rugged off-road SUV with a boxy, upright stance. It features a wide grille with rectangular LED headlamps, thick bumpers, skid plates and a strong overall design that reflects its off-road capability. At the rear, it features a vertically opening tailgate with a mounted spare wheel, slim LED tail lamps and a rugged bumper design.

Globally, the T2 is offered with plug-in hybrid and hybrid powertrain options. For India, we expect the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system producing 154 hp and 220 Nm of torque. It also comes with a 26.7 kWh battery pack, available in single-motor FWD or dual-motor AWD configurations. The battery is claimed to offer a maximum range of up to 139 km.

Inside, the SUV offers a premium cabin with a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a fixed panoramic sunroof, wireless connectivity and charging, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, and ventilated and powered front seats.

On the safety front, the SUV is expected to feature Level 2 ADAS, hill start and descent assist, a 360-degree camera system and automatic climate control. For off-road driving, it features multiple terrain modes, enhanced passability systems and an intelligent creeping mode for controlled low-speed manoeuvres.

JSW Group is already in partnership with SAIC-owned MG Motor India, and the collaboration has seen strong market response, particularly with EV models like the Windsor EV and Comet EV. The partnership has helped MG strengthen its presence in the electric segment.

JSW has also been expanding manufacturing capabilities, including investments at the Halol plant in Gujarat to meet growing demand. Alongside this, the group has ambitious plans to introduce its own independent automotive brand in India, with rebadged Jetour models expected to form the initial lineup.
