Made-in-India Cars Reach Global Markets As Exports Rise 15% In 2025

India is a global manufacturing hub, particularly for the automotive sector. According to a report by The Economic Times, more than 8,58,000 units of Made-in-India cars were exported to multiple continents in 2025, including Africa, Latin America, and West Asia. It was a 15% increase in exports compared to 2024.

These strong export numbers were achieved despite global economic instability, a stagnant international automobile market, higher tariffs, and stricter pollution control regulations. According to an industry expert, the key reasons behind this export surge include cleaner supply chains, cost-effective manufacturing and labour, advanced technology, and growing trust for indian vehicles.

Automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Honda Cars India, Tata Motors, Nissan, Hyundai Motor India, and Mahindra are exporting a significant number of vehicles to global markets. Among these manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki emerged as the largest exporter in 2025, accounting for nearly 46% of India's total car exports.

The brand exported 3,95,000 units, registering a 21% year-on-year growth. It also began exporting its first electric vehicle, the eVitara, to European markets. In total, Maruti Suzuki exported to around 100 countries in 2025.

Another manufacturer witnessing strong export growth is Honda Cars India. Models such as the Elevate, Amaze, and City are popular in markets including Japan, Mexico, the Middle East, South Africa, and Latin America. Honda is also planning to launch a new electric vehicle later this year, with India set to be its only manufacturing facility.

South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor India exported 1,86,528 units to various global markets in 2025. The company recorded an 18% growth in exports, making it the second-largest car exporter from India. Its sister brand, Kia, is also exporting vehicles to multiple international markets.

Meanwhile, Nissan, despite facing financial struggles, had a strong export year in 2025. The Japanese automaker manufactures vehicles at its Chennai facility and exports them to several international markets. Apart from these brands, manufacturers such as Mahindra, Tata Motors, Volkswagen, Toyota, Skoda, and Renault are also exporting vehicles from India.
