Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric Unveiled In India: Most Affordable Luxury EV
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its CLA electric, which will become its most affordable electric car in the Indian market. This car is based on a new platform with EQ technology, and the bookings will begin from March 10.
Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric Unveiled
German automaker Mercedes-Benz has revealed the CLA electric sedan in India ahead of its launch. The CLA will be the most accessible electric sedan in the lineup and will be based on the new-generation Modular Electric Architecture.

Design
The exterior design is curvy and feels coupe-like at times, especially with the sloping rear roofline. At the front, it features a sculpted bonnet, a closed illuminated hexagonal grille with 'tri-stars', and connected headlamps with signature tri-star DRLs.
The bumper design is aggressive with multiple cutouts and air dams. It also gets 18-inch alloy wheels and flush door handles, enhancing the overall exterior appeal. The rear also features connected LED tail lamps and an aggressive bumper design.

Interiors
On the inside, it gets a revamped dashboard with the Superscreen at the centre, inspired by the EQE. It features a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new 6-spoke steering wheel, steering-integrated gear shifters, and premium upholstery with silver finishes, which adds to the luxurious feel.
The seats are sporty and made from recycled materials with a special fabric finish. It also gets powered, ventilated, and massage-function front seats, wireless charging, a panoramic glass roof, AR navigation support, and wireless connectivity.

Battery and Powertrain
The CLA packs a large 85.5 kWh battery with RWD, allowing the car to achieve a maximum claimed range of up to 792 km. One standout feature is the 2-speed automatic transmission, which improves battery efficiency at higher speeds.
Power output stands at 272 PS and 335 Nm, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. It also supports 240 kW DC fast charging, which can add up to 400 km of range in just 20 minutes.

Safety and Technology
Safety features include Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera system, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, front and rear parking sensors, 8+ airbags, and suspension tuned for Indian road conditions. The new CLA platform achieved a 5-star safety rating at the Euro NCAP crash tests.
The Mercedes CLA EV is larger in size, offering a spacious cabin and boot area. Passengers can travel comfortably on long journeys, and it also features a frunk providing 101 litres of storage. The regular boot space stands at 405 litres.

Price expectations
The new Mercedes-Benz CLA is available only with the 250+ electric trim. The launch is expected by April 2025. Since it will be the brand's most affordable EV offering, the expected price is around ₹60-65 lakh (ex-showroom).
It rivals other entry-level luxury electric cars, including the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, BMW iX1, BYD Seal, MG Cyberster, and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. With its arrival, competition in the luxury EV segment is expected to intensify further, offering buyers more advanced choices in performance, technology, and premium electric mobility.
