MG Gloster Likely To Be Discontinued As MG Majestor Set To Take Over As Flagship SUV In India
MG Motor India has expanded its premium SUV lineup in India with the launch of the all-new MG Majestor. With this new flagship arrival, industry reports indicate the company may gradually phase out the MG Gloster, which has served as MG's top-of-the-line ICE SUV model in the country since its debut in 2020.
Why MG Plans To Discontinue The Gloster SUV?
Having two D+ segment SUVs in its portfolio may not be strategically sustainable for MG, as the arrival of the MG Majestor could potentially cannibalise sales of the MG Gloster. The Gloster was initially positioned as a direct rival to the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. It received a positive response during its early years thanks to its strong road presence, feature-rich cabin, and competitive pricing.

However, sales reportedly declined over time despite MG introducing multiple variants, including special editions like the Blackstorm, to boost demand. To refresh its positioning in the premium SUV segment, MG introduced the Majestor, which shares its core powertrain with the Gloster but adds updated design & styling, improved technology, and enhanced off-road capability.
MG Majestor SUV Highlights
Some Key Highlights Of The Majestor SUV include up to 10 off-road driving modes, Triple differential locks and crawl mode, 810 mm water-wading capacity, an aggressive Mosaic Matrix grille and rugged underbody cladding, a high-tensile ladder-frame chassis, Available in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations, an electronic parking brake, hill assist, and off-road-focused tyres/alloys.

The Cabin comfort and technology are also top-notch, as it gets powered and ventilated front seats, an iSmart 2.0 infotainment system with 75+ connected features, a fully digital instrument cluster, Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, Dual wireless charging, wireless connectivity, and electrically adjustable ORVMs.
Pricing expectations
MG is reportedly planning to increase the production capacity of the Majestor to around 1,000 units per month. Official pricing has not yet been announced, but industry estimates suggest it could be priced around ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a successor to the Gloster in MG's Indian lineup.
Overall, the Majestor appears designed to strengthen MG's presence in the premium ladder-frame SUV segment while directly challenging established rivals like the Fortuner. Apart from the Fortuner, the Majestor also targets other premium SUV models such as the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and the newly launched VW Tayron R-Line.
