Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner – Expected Design, Features and Powertrain Details

Toyota is expected to launch the new-gen Fortuner SUV in India this year or by early 2027. The D-segment SUV is one of the most popular in the Indian market and has remained a market leader for many years. Here are the expectations for the upcoming Fortuner SUV.

New Gen Toyota Fortuner SUV

The Fortuner has long dominated the D-segment SUV space in India. The next-generation model is expected to arrive soon, although there has been no official announcement from Toyota yet. The new-gen Fortuner is expected to feature a larger grille, updated LED headlamps, and redesigned tail lamps.

The front and rear bumpers will also be revised, along with fresh alloy wheels, while most of the overall exterior design is likely to be retained. Many of its design elements are expected to be inspired by the more premium Land Cruiser SUV.

The interiors are also expected to be redesigned with a more premium cabin and improved seating. The dashboard could feature an all-new layout with an updated centre console, digital instrument cluster, new steering wheel, and physical buttons for AC controls. Premium convenient features like Ventilated power seats will be retained.

We also expect the SUV to feature the same engines, including the 2.7L petrol engine producing 166 PS and 245 Nm of torque, along with the 2.8L turbo diesel engine generating 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque.

It will come with a capable 4x4 drivetrain designed to handle different driving conditions. Transmission options are expected to include both manual and automatic gearboxes. The diesel automatic powertrain may also continue to feature the Neo Drive option with a 48V mild-hybrid system.

Since the Fortuner is built as a proper off-road SUV, it is likely to continue using the tough body-on-frame chassis. Other off-road-focused features may include Electronic Differential Lock, Hill Assist Control, Electronic Drive Control, Vehicle Stability Control, and ABS with EBD.

The Toyota Fortuner competes against popular models such as the Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, and Skoda Kodiaq. Recently, Volkswagen launched the Tayron R-Line, while MG introduced the Majestor SUV in India. However, Fortuner remains the favourite D-segment SUV for Indian consumers. Currently, the Fortuner is priced at 34.16 Lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-of-the-line Diesel Automatic with 4WD starts at 42.37 Lakh (ex-showroom).
