Spy Pics: Renault Bigster 7-Seater SUV Spotted Testing

French carmaker Renault recently launched the new-gen Duster SUV in India. However, the Duster is only a part of the French carmaker's plans for India as it looks to reach new heights on the sales charts.

Now thanks to Anil, one of our intrepid readers in Bengaluru, we get to the see the next part of Renault's Indian revival plans, the Bigster. A seven seater SUV, the Renault Bigster has been on sale in Europe since late 2024, where it is sold by the carmaker's Romanian subsidiary, Dacia.

The Renault Bigster, which was first previewed by the Bigster Concept in 2021, is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF-B platform, like the Duster it is based on. However, the Bigster is longer and also features a longer wheelbase compared to the Duster.

This extended wheelbase and length can be seen in our spy images of the Bigster with the test mule featuring a camo-covered rear door, which looks slightly longer than the one in the Duster launched on 26th January.

The rear overhang of the Renault Bigster test mule also looks to be longer than that of the Duster and a peek through the rear windscreen does reveal the presence of what appear to be two extra seats that sit quite close to the glass. The Bigster test mule also looks to be riding on a new set of alloys, though we couldn't really make out the size. The Bigster in Europe is offered with wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches in size.

The Renault Bigster, also shares its powertrains with the Duster in Europe. However, the base engine is not the same as the turbo-petrol offered with the Duster sold in India. The Bigster features a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder mild hybrid powerplant that puts out either 130hp or 140hp, depending on the chosen variant.

The other engine on offer with the Dacia Bigster in Europe is the same one seen in the top-spec Duster sold in India. The strong hybrid setup features a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol along with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery pack, which puts out a combined 163hp and 280Nm of peak torque.

The Renault-branded Bigster for India is expected to arrive either late this year or in sometime in early 2027 and it will sit above the Duster in Renault's India lineup and will go up against the likes of the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar and the Kia Carens Clavis, among others.
