Volkswagen Developing ADAS For Virtus & Taigun in India? Major Safety Upgrade Coming
Volkswagen is reportedly developing ADAS safety technology for its Virtus and Taigun in India. These are the two most affordable models sold by the brand in the Indian market, and soon they will receive a mid-life facelift. If developed, we also expect this technology to be shared with Skoda Auto, its sister brand.
Volkswagen Working On ADAS Tech
German automaker Volkswagen recently launched its premium flagship model, the Tayron R-Line, in the Indian market. This car will be imported to India via CBU, and it is the first of the five upcoming models this year. VW plans to launch the Taigun and Virtus facelifts along with a new sub-4-metre SUV based on the Kylaq and its first EV car for the Indian market by the end of 2026.

Its sibling, Skoda, recently launched the Skoda Kushaq facelift with a new exterior design and interior updates. The one thing that disappointed many was the absence of ADAS technology and a 360-degree camera system. However, it has been reported that Volkswagen is planning on a new ADAS technology for its Virtus and Taigun cars, specifically made for the Indian market at a cost-effective price.
Once this technology is fully developed, it will be introduced to these cars, and we also expect it to be shared with Skoda, since both brands use the same MQB-A0-IN platform. Many manufacturers, such as Hyundai, Kia, Tata Motors, Mahindra, and Maruti Suzuki, are selling cars with ADAS technology in this segment, except for Skoda and Volkswagen.

So it is very normal for customers to expect this technology from these brands. However, for some reason, the process is being delayed, and even in the recent Skoda Kushaq facelift, we didn't see any ADAS technology, even for the top-of-the-line variant. If Volkswagen brings the ADAS tech to India, we believe the first preference will be given to the Virtus and Taigun.
Volkswagen is currently selling the Virtus, Taigun, Tiguan, Tiguan R-Line, and Golf GTI cars in the Indian market. Soon, this lineup will be expanded with a new affordable car that sits below the Taigun.
