Piaggio Plans Quadricycles, But Won’t Replace Three Wheelers
At a recent launch event of new Ape City Compact Diesel three wheelers Piaggio revealed its intention of entering the quadricycle segment.
Speaking to the media Hardip Goindi, Executive Vice President of Piaggio Vehicles, which is one of India's leading three wheeler manufacturer, said the Italian company is looking into launching quadricycles.
However, unlike Bajaj Auto, Piaggio feels quadricycles will not replace three wheelers. This is in stark contrast to what Bajaj has planned for its quadricycles.

Bajaj strongly believes the small four wheeled quadricycles, such as its RE60, are safer as well as more fuel efficient and emit less CO2 than current generation three wheelers.
Bajaj has frequently said that it sees quadricycles as the future replacements of auto rickshaws and three wheeled cargo transporters.
Piaggio on the other hand says quadricycle as public transport vehicles will not replace three wheelers all together.
Goindi said that three wheelers still have huge potential and it is too large a segment on its own to be affected by quadricycles. Quadricycles will do well in their own segment, he said. In fact, Goindi believes India has fewer three wheelers than it should have.
Piaggio is yet to reveal when it plans to debut quadricycles for India and which models will be sold here. A likely candidate is the NT3 Concept pictured above.
