VW's budget car project has faced lot of difficulties to take-off as for a long time as the company was unable to meet its internal safety and quality standards while still maintaining production cost within budget.

In fact, during the Geneva Motor Show 2014, VW development head Heinz-Jakob Neusser had expressed concern about the project's future, saying achieving cost goals was becoming exceedingly difficult.
The first model from the budget brand is expected to cost somewhere between €6,000 (~$8,300) and €8,000 (~$11,000) and will appear in China first.
China is the world's largest market for low cost cars, which makes it the ideal place for VW to launch its new budget brand. Other emerging markets such as India (where VW has a low presence), Russia, Southeast Asia will see VW's budget cars being launched. Experts believe that for VW to realise its dream of becoming the world's largest car manufacturer by 2018 it has to have a successful budget car brand.
