1982 Mercedes W123 S-Class Breakdown on Himalayan Trip, Owner Blames E20 Petrol
E20 petrol has caused a 1983 Mercedes W123 to break down in India. On its way to the Himalayas, the car stopped working. The Owner from the UK claims that using E20 fuel caused the breakdown and says the vehicle is well-maintained and has no issues.
He explained that the car was running fine until it arrived in India. He added that the high-ethanol blended fuel has caused the vehicle to stop working after running more than a million miles.

Even after replacing the fuel pump and injectors, the car failed to start. The Mercedes-Benz W123 is one of the most reliable cars ever sold. They now have to drain the blended petrol, refill it with fresh fuel, and hope it starts. Or else they have to tow it back to the UK. This video is now going viral on the internet, and many people are posting comments about facing similar issues in their vehicles.
E20 Fuel and Issues
To reduce its dependence on oil imports, the indian government uses ethanol-blended fuels. They also plan to introduce E27 fuel within the next few years. Car and Bike manufacturers are now only allowed to produce E20-compliant vehicles. Most petrol bunks in India only supply petrol with a 20% ethanol blend. On the other side, there were many reports about the E20 fuel.

People claim that E20 fuel is rusting their fuel tanks and causing problems such as reduced mileage, engine misfiring, fuel injector issues, and more. In India, 80% of vehicles are still not compatible with E20 fuel. Many people are now demanding that non-E20 fuel should also be available at fuel stations for their older vehicles.
In India, XP100 by Indian Oil and Power 100 by Hindustan Petroleum are the non-ethanol options available. These petrols are used in high-performance vehicles and cost more than normal E20 petrol. Another option is Shell Premium Fuel, but it is also expensive than the regular fuels.
