Dubbed the HPD Beast by Honda, the CR-V Hybrid Racer is perhaps the most insane iteration of the Japanese firm's school-run SUV yet. And at first glance, it just looks like a lowered widebody CR-V with racy parts added on and a bonkers paint job.

However, don't let your eyes get fooled by the fancy bodywork as this CR-V Hybrid Racer doesn't have anything in common with its road-going sibling other than its general looks.
The lower section of the body is made from lightweight carbon fibre while the upper section still is pure CR-V at least cosmetically - mostly. The doors are another part of the CR-V Hybrid Racer.

The front units are a supercar speciality - butterfly doors while the ones at the rear don't open at all. Instead, the entire rear section of the Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer opens up as part of the clamshell that allows access to the hybrid powertrain.
Open up the rear clamshell and you'll see a lot more of the racing bits fitted to the CR-V dubbed the HPD Beast. The tube chassis is another racing special as is the 2.2-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine from the Indycar series.

The Indycar engine runs on 100 per cent renewable race fuel from Shell and comes paired with an Xtrac six-speed paddle shift gearbox. The engine is paired with an electric motor generator unit from Empel ala F1.
The motor generator unit draws power from a supercapacitor, which to date has been seen on Lamborghini's few-off series supercars like the new Countach and the Sian.

Supercapacitors can discharge and recharge electrical power faster than regular batteries which should be useful if the Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer ever hits the racetrack.
The suspension and braking setup of the hybrid racing SUV is a mix of multiple racing series. The front end is from a Honda NSX-GT-3 race car with 380mm Brembo brakes. The rear section is adapted from the Dallara IR-18 Indycar racer with 355mm brakes once again from Brembo.

The Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer rides on 20-inch two-piece alloy wheels that are shod with Firestone 'Firehawk Indy 500' tyres measuring 285/35 up front and 305/35 at the rear.

Thoughts About The Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer
The Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer is a bonkers racecar hiding under a lowered and widened CR-V SUV body and is what happens when you let engineers loose to do what they want for fun.
