The Killer Whale Submarine Is A Killer Toy
Humans have always dreamed about two things - One, flying like a bird and the second, swimming like a fish. While various inventions have brought us very close to enjoying the sensation of flight like an actual bird, the second dream had remained elusive for a long time, until Hammacher Schlemmer came up with its killer whale submarine.
The movement of a killer whale or any other dolphin in the water is characterized by fast acrobatic movements, with frequent breaching of the water surface. These majestic creatures are also seen cruising at high speeds just below the surface, with their dorsal fin slicing the water surface. The killer whale submarine is a water craft which allows you to mimic the movements of a real dolphin.

A real killer whale
The killer whale submarine is a sports utility submarine that seats two. The the cabin is protected by a transparent, watertight half inch thick acrylic canopy.

Like a real fish, the submarine has pectoral fins, which are controlled by pulling and pushing two levers. Throttle is applied by a trigger on the right lever, whereas steering is provided by dual foot pedals.

Killer whale submarine is powered by a supercharged Rotax axial flow engine, rated at 255 HP. Fuel is held in a 14-gallon fuel tank.

The engine's power delivery enables the craft to pull out stunts such as porpoising (moving the through the water in alternating rising and submerging movements) and skyhopping, just like a real Killer Whale.

The water craft can hydroplane on the surface of the water at up to 50 mph (80.5 km/h) and can reach 25 mph (40 km/h) underwater.

The craft can reach a depth of 5 feet and fresh air to the engine and cabin is supplied from a snorkel on the dorsal fin.

Passengers are held in their seats with four point racing harness and a dashboard display streams live video from a camera mounted on the dorsal fin. The killer whale submarine has a price tag of $100,000 or INR 54.7 lakhs.
