Motorcycle Crash Video Compilation From 2013

The recently released 2012 Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) data in the United States by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has revealed that 4,957 motorcyclists died in two wheeler accidents, as against 4,630 riders a year before. In fact, motorcycle fatality rate has only gone up for the last three consecutive years.

The reason for this are several with no simple answer being available. While we do not know what the numbers in India are we can be sure they are far higher than the U.S.

The inherent nature of a motorcycling means that the chances of being involved in an accident and getting injured are far higher compared to a person sitting inside a car. That being said a motorcyclist can always decrease his or her chances of being injured and improve chances of coming out alive from even a seemingly severe accident.

Full body protection as much as possible, especially if you know you will ride fast. It goes without saying that a helmet is a must no matter where you are driving. Even in start stop traffic.

Besides protection your next best chance of being safe is to follow traffic rules and as much as possible making yourself visible to drivers of larger vehicles and staying away from their blind spots. After all, even its not your mistake in the end it is the motorcyclist who will bear the brunt of an accident and not the car driver.
