World's Oldest Vespa Scooter Is Up For Auction
The World’s oldest Vespa scooter was hand-built in 1946 and is in working condition; is expected to fetch between €250,000 and €300,000 (approx. Rs 1.76 crores to Rs 2.2 crores) in the auction.
The world's oldest Vespa scooter, a hand-built vehicle that featured in the 1953 Audrey Hepburn blockbuster movie Roman Holiday, is up for auction and is expected to fetch close to €300,000 (approx. Rs 2.2 crores).

The oldest Vespa is from Piaggio's "0 Series" with the serial number 1003 and was made in 1946; this makes it the third prototype of 60 produced by the famous Italian company.

As per the original patent application, a Vespa is categorised as a "motorcycle with rationally placed parts and elements with a frame combining with mudguards and engine cowling covering all working parts."
It further states that "the whole constitutes a rational, comfortable motorcycle offering protection from mud and dust without jeopardising requirements of appearance and elegance."

However, don't expect the oldest Vespa scooter to go for a low price. Catawiki, the company who is auctioning the scooter, anticipates it to sell in the price range of €250,000 and €300,000 (approx. Rs 1.76 crores to Rs 2.2 crores).

When the auction ends, the owner won't just own a piece of history, this Vespa still runs.
