Diesel Still The Mileage King - Skoda Superb Covers 2,831 km On One Tank, Claims Claims Guinness World Record

A Skoda Superb in the hands of a European Rally Champion completed a 2,831-kilometre journey across Europe on a single tank of diesel, claiming the Guinness World Record for the "Greatest distance driven on a single tank of fuel".

The hypermiling fuel run in the Superb across Europe started in Lodz, Poland and continued through Germany, and France before turning back through Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany back to Poland, with independent GPS tracking and fuel records confirming the new world record.

The route crossed multiple countries, using a combination of highways and open roads. Stops were limited to vehicle inspection and driver rest. GPS tracking and fuel logs recorded the entire distance, confirming the tank was fully depleted only at the conclusion of the drive.

Polish rally driver Miko Marczyk was behind the wheel of the Superb, which featured lower rolling resistance tyres and a slightly lowered suspension setup. Other than those minor tweaks, the Skoda Superb was left untouched, retaining its standard powertrain setup - the 2.0-litre TDI engine with 148hp and 360Nm of peak torque connected to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.

The Superb's 66-litre tank was filled to the brim with diesel. Marczyk maintained an average speed during the record attempt of around 80 km/h and drove with Eco mode enabled.
Thanks to this, the final fuel consumption of the record-breaking Superb was measured at 2.61 litres per 100 km (38.31km/l), way better than the official 4.8 l/100 km (20.83km/l) WLTP rating given to Skoda's flagship sedan.

Earlier long-range runs with the Superb GreenLine edition covered roughly 1,780 km on a single tank. The 2,831 km attempt used the same tank size but a newer 2.0 TDI version of the Superb sold in Europe.

When last on sale in India, the Skoda Superb came with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 190 PS and 320 Nm, paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic. Standard features included adaptive cruise control, lane assist, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and a large array of safety equipment.
