HAL Tejas
HAL Tejas is the pride of the nation, it is the only indigenously developed fighter aircraft in this list. This model is defined as a light multirole fighter aircraft. This aircraft is part of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme that commenced in the 1980s.
The Tejas Mark 1A is the enhanced version of the Tejas Mark 1 aircraft with upgrades such as EL/M-2052, Uttam AESA radar, self-protection jammer, radar warning receiver, ECM pod and more. Moreover, more than 40 units of the aircraft have been built and IAF plans to procure 324 units.
Sukhoi SU-30MKI
The Sukhoi SU-30MKI is widely regarded as the backbone of IAF and it is designated as a multirole air superiority fighter. This aircraft is designed by Russia but built under licence by HAL. Also, more than 272 units of the aircraft have been built to this date.
Despite its large size, the Sukhoi SU-30MKI has a high angle of attack (AOA) and it is a highly manoeuvrable aircraft with a distinct advantage in dogfight situations. In fact, during a simulation exercise, RAF Air Chief Marshal Glenn Torpy called the aircraft "absolutely masterful in dogfights".
Dassault Rafale
The Dassault Rafale is a French twin-engine, canard delta wing, multi-role fighter aircraft. The Indian Air Force inducted the Dassault Rafale after the MRCA competition. In fact, by July 2021, a total of 26 units of Rafale aircraft have been delivered to India.
