Viral Video: Goods Train Runs Without Driver From Jammu and Kashmir To Punjab
A goods train embarked on an unexpected journey from Kathua station in Jammu and Kashmir to a village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, covering over 70km without its drivers. The diesel locomotive-hauled goods train reached speeds of nearly 100 km/h before finally being brought to a halt.
Moreover, this train was brought to a halt near Unchi Bassi railway station in Punjab, with the help of sandbags. Loaded with chip stones, the 53-wagon train was en route to Punjab from Jammu when the incident occurred. A video capturing the train's high-speed journey surfaced online, raising concerns.

According to information from a spokesperson of the Northern Railway, the train had made a stop at Kathua railway station for a driver change. However, it began rolling down a slope gradient track on the Jammu-Jalandhar section after the driver allegedly forgot to engage the hand brake.
Remarkably, neither the loco pilot nor the assistant loco pilot were onboard the freight train during its unsupervised journey. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage were reported. An inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The train came to a stop near Unchi Bassi due to a steep gradient, after travelling a distance of more than 70 km with no conductor. The intervention of sandbags successfully prevented any further movement. Railway officials have launched a comprehensive investigation to assess whether the train was properly secured at Kathua on the downward gradient.
In response to the incident, railway authorities have heightened monitoring along the Jalandhar-Pathankot route, ensuring the safety of railroad crossings. Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar from the Government Railway Police (Jalandhar) assured that they’ve taken steps to avoid similar incidents.
