By Ganesh

Volvo luxury buses are a common sight these days. Several state transport organizations in the country operate these high end coaches. And it's not just limited to state run transport departments, but even private tour operators have added a variety of Volvo coaches to their fleet.

However, owing to their high performance and the sheer size and weight of Volvo's luxury buses, drivers have to be specially trained to pilot them. But unfortunately sometimes thing get out of control despite the best efforts of drivers (other times, also due to driver faults), resulting in accidents. Some of these accidents, as recent events have proved, can turn fatal.

Just like while flying in a commercial jet it is important for a bus traveler to be aware of the layout of the coach and these images display the same.

Emergency Exit Glass Window
Every Volvo comes with several emergency exists, in most cases it's four and they are clearly marked in red text. Typically, hammers can be found right next to the emergency windows and these can be used to break open the glass by slamming them as hard as you can. Preferably near the edge of the window.

Volvo mentions that typically, all windows, except the first window on either side can be used as an emergency exit.

Roof Hatch Exit
Most buses have hatches on the roof. In Volvos, there are two, towards the front and rear end of the bus. They are not the easiest exit options since they would require one to climb up a seat to climb out. However, in an emergency everything counts.

Fire Extinguishers
Typically, two fire extinguishers can be found in Volvo coaches. Their positions are clearly marked in the layout images. The first is placed next to the co-driver's seat and other one is placed under the middle seat of the last row.
Note that fire extinguishers can also be used to break open emergency window panes.

Opening the main door
In an emergency, you may operate the doors yourself. The door switch knob can be found on the dashboard. Turning the door switch knob to the right opens the main door.

Seat Belts
Last, but not the least. Never travel without wearing seat belts when one is provided. The above mentioned Volvo coaches offer seat belts for the four seats of the first row and the middle seat of the last row.
