World's Most Expensive Number Plate Sells For 55 Million Dirhams (Rs 122.93 Crore)
The world's most expensive number plate was recently sold off at an auction for an astounding 55 million dirhams (Rs 122.93 crore). The auction in question took place in Dubai last week.
The personalized car number plate in question was P7, which reads as just '7' when displayed on numberplates in Dubai due to the way the item in question is designed.

Personalized number plates are all the rage around the world and while some countries offer them up for a little bit extra, in others, these special plates go up for auction where they fetch some outrageous numbers.
The fact that the world record for the most expensive number plate was broken in Dubai comes as no surprise. The city, which is one of the emirates of the UAE, is known for its love of fast and powerful cars.
An insane number plate is a way to show the world just how powerful you are in a city where supercars are as common as regular cars in other countries.
However, in this case, the winner of the '7' number plate chose to remain anonymous. The price that he/she paid for the '7' number plate also went to a good cause as it was donated to a charity.

The money in question was donated to the 1 Billion Meals Endowment, which is run by the ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The money and other donations to the charity will be used to help launch a food endowment fund at a value of 1 billion dirhams (Rs 2,235.08 crore).
This isn't the first time personalised plates have caused such a stir and that too in the United Arab Emirates. The previous record holder was the number '1' for the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi, which was picked up in 2008 by local Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri, who paid 52.2 million dirhams for the plate in 2008.
Thoughts About The Insane Price Tag For The World's Most Expensive Number Plate
Dubai has done it again. The Emirati city best known for its insane car culture just added another new legend to its bonkers story. Coughing up 55 million dirhams (nearly $15 Million) for a number plate is the ultimate powerplay in a city that considers supercars to be normal.
