O2 Pursuit - Dirt Bike That Runs For 100km On Air!
Here is a bike that runs on pure air. Using a compressed air tank, the O2 Pursuit can run for as many as 100 kilometres and also reach a top speed of 140kmph. This dirt bike has been developed by Australian engineering students.
The O2 Pursuit is based on a Yamaha dirt bike. Dean Benstead who started the project started working with the frame of the Yamaha WR250R's frame. Removed the fuel tank and replaced it with a compressed air tank usually used by scuba divers. The petrol engine was replaced by a small 25 pong engine that runs when compressed air passes through it.

While many have tried to use compressed air to run vehicles, the major problem was practicality and range. The O2 Pursuit can run for close to 100 kilometres and can also reach a top speed of 140kmph.

The fact that it is a dirt bike means it is comparatively light and hence it can have a range of 100km.

The O2 Pursuit is still a prototype but the students who have developed it say it is a more eco-friendly alternative than electric bikes. Since it does not use any batteries that cause environmental damage on disposal, the O2 Pursuit is cleaner bike.

The O2 can be a winner when it comes to practicality too. The makers of the compressed air bike say the air tank can be refilled in just two minutes while it takes several hours to recharge an electric bike.

Indian Compressed Air Bike
Even Indian engineering students have tried their hand at building a compressed air bike. Here is an image.

Tata's Compressed Air Car
Tata Motors is trying to develop a car that also runs on compressed air. This car was expected to be unveiled in 2012, but so far there has been no update on it.
