Motoped: A Moped-Mountain Bike Hybrid

Since the makers of Motoped do not have enough funding as of yet to mass produce it, the contraption is being provided as a do-it-yourself kit, where you will need to purchase the parts and assembly it yourself with the help of a provided guide.

Motoped is part pit bike and part mountain bike.
Here are a few examples of pit bikes. These are usually small two wheelers and the name comes from their use in race pits during racings events. Their small size means they come in handy in several instances.

The parts which the inventors of Motoped will provide include frame, swing-arm, sub-frame, jackshft assembly, sprockets, bottom bracket, rear hub, and exhaust system (pipe&muffler), all of which are custom built.

The remaining pit bike and mountain parts (a list will be provided) have to purchased off the shelf. This includes the engine.

The engine is the most important part here since this will determine how your Motoped will behave. For example, a small one will be good for city travel, but if you are into off roading a larger displacement might come in handy. Honda xr50/pit bike engines ranging between 50-190cc is what is recommended. But you could also purchase a chinese pit bike engine to save cost.

The mountain bike parts which goes into the making of Motoped include, Forks, Wheels, Tires, Rear shock, Brakes, Cranks, Pedals, Headset, and Freewheel. These need to be purchased separately.

The same goes for the pit bike parts - Engine, Tank, Seat, Plastics, and Throttle.

The pedal drive system, unlike other motorized bicycles, has a single chain transfering power to the rear wheels. Generally, such bikes use seperate chains for the pedal and motor.
