Harley-Davidson V-Rod Production Killed — A 17-Year Production Run Comes To A Halt

American Motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has killed the production of the V-Rod, after being in production for 17 years. The motorcycle was co-developed by Porsche, and the power cruiser was introduced in 2001.

Harley revamped the Softail range for the year 2018 recently, and the official website does not show the V-Rod. For those looking for the best alternate, 2017 V-Rod Muscle and Night Rod Special are the choices.

The Harley-Davidson V-Rod was introduced in 2001, and when it was, the motorcycle was more non-Harley than one. The V-Rod featured a 60-degree V-Twin instead of the traditional 45-degree twin, and the motor was liquid-cooled, thanks to Porsche's inputs.

The V-Rod's engine offered strong low-end torque, and the motorcycle featured a hydroformed tubular frame, fuel tank under the seat, and the air filter cover shaped like the gas tank. Over the years, the V-Rod featured Brembo brakes and sleek styling.

The engine on the V-Rod even passed the Dusseldorf Endurance Test – running 500 hours non-stop without any failures – to prove its reliability. The V-Rod was not the most famous model amongst Harley fans but did manage to build a fanbase of its own.

It is quite sad to see the Harley-Davidson V-Rod go, but hey, so did many other famous motorcycles. It will be interesting to see if Harley comes up with something to replace the V-Rod, but there's no words or signs yet.
