Honda’s Royal Enfield Rival Middleweight Motorcycle Put On Hold
Earlier Honda had planned to develop a Royal Enfield rival middleweight motorcycle. But now the company has put the plan on hold.
Japanese automaker Honda had planned to develop a global middleweight motorcycle to rival the likes of Royal Enfield. But it seems like the company has put the plan on hold.

Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India (HMSI) President and CEO, Minoru Kato has hinted that the plans for the Royal Enfield rival in India have been put on hold. So, Honda might delay the project for some time.

Kato said, "So far, from my point of view, the cost competitiveness as of today is not enough to compete in that segment." He added that the company is cost-competitive in big volume models.

Kato also stated that the firm lacks the experience in developing motorcycles above 250cc segment in India. So, Honda has delayed the new project in the country.

But Honda has more plans as far as Indian market in concerned. The company will be launching three new models this year. First will be the Africa Twin which is likely to be launched next month.

Currently, Honda is focusing on the sales of the scooters and motorcycles in the Indian market. The company aims to retail 6 million units by this financial year. The two-wheeler maker managed to sell 4.7 million units in the last financial year.
