MotoGP: Ducati Reveals New Aerodynamic Fairing

Ducati has revealed the new aerodynamic fairing in the Czech Grand Prix at Brno.

Ducati has revealed the new aerodynamic fairing in the second practise session of the Czech Grand Prix at Brno.

The Italian motorcycle manufacturer was the first to introduce the winglets which are now banned. This year the new fairings are designed to replace the winglets.

The new aerodynamic fairing made its first appearance in the closing stages of the second free practise session. The fairing was equipped on Jorge Lorenzo's bike.

    With the track fully dried, Lorenzo completed several laps with the new fairing; he was immediately quicker than his previous run. But his teammate Andrea Dovizioso did not test the newly designed bodywork.

    The newly designed fairing features two sculpted elements extending from either side of the motorcycle, just above the front wheel. Dovizioso topped the second free practise, and Lorenzo finished 15th.

    Earlier this year Ducati experimented with another new fairing in Qatar testing. But it was never used and was abandoned because of its lower top speed. Honda has also debuted its new fairing at Brno. Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa tested slightly different version of the fairing.

    Ducati was the pioneer to introduce the winglets in MotoGP. But this season, the Italian team has struggled to match the pace of its rivals. Lorenzo feels that the new fairing will help the team to improve the straight line speed.
