Yamaha Opens First Technical Training Centre In Chennai

India Yamaha Motor has opened its first Japan-India Institute of Manufacturing (JIM) in Chennai, TamilNadu.

It is Yamaha's first Technical Training Institute in India under JIM and has been named as Yamaha Motor NTTF Training Center (YNTC). The institute focuses on training future shop floor leaders in the Japanese working methods and manufacturing style.

JIM is an association between the Governments of Japan and India involving Japanese companies, instituted to create the skilled workforce for the manufacturing units in India.

JIM was established through a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed in Tokyo on November 11, 2016. Under this, Japanese Endowed Courses (JEC) will also be imparted in existing engineering colleges to train 30,000 standard shop floor leaders and engineers over the next ten years.

Forty students aged between 18 to 21 years have been admitted into the first academic year of the four-year program. The students will learn technical skills of Japanese-style manufacturing, covering nine main topics such as Motorcycle Assembly, Painting, Welding, Casting, Machining, Parts Control, Quality Control, and Utility Techniques.

The students were selected through screening, an entrance test and counselling.

The government of Japan and Japanese companies seem to have recognised the 'Make in India' and 'Skill India' initiatives taken up by the government of India. This might be one of the major reason behind this initiation from Yamaha. The technical skill program in Japanese-style manufacturing, is a great opportunity for the upcoming Indian engineers.
