Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono: India's Priciest Single-Cylinder Bike

The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono has been launched in India at a steep price of Rs. 16.5 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it the most expensive single-cylinder motorcycle available in the country. Ducati India had been teasing this model on social media for several weeks before its official release.

Bookings for the Hypermotard 698 Mono are now open, with deliveries expected to commence by the end of the month. The bike features a 659 cc single-cylinder engine, which is currently the most powerful single-cylinder unit globally. This engine produces 77.5 bhp at 9,750 rpm and 63 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm.

Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Design and Features

The motorcycle boasts a steel trellis frame chassis, a steel sub-frame, and an Aluminium swingarm. Its design is inspired by the Hypermotard 950, featuring a pronounced beak and twin exhaust pipes under the seat. The bike's aggressive look is complemented by adjustable 45 mm Marzocchi USD forks at the front and a fully adjustable Sachs monoshock at the rear.

For braking, the Hypermotard 698 Mono is equipped with a 330 mm disc up front paired with a Brembo M4.32 calliper, radial pump, and adjustable levers. At the rear, it has a 245 mm disc with a single-piston calliper. The bike rides on cast alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox that includes a slip and assist clutch. If riders opt for the Termignoni exhaust, power increases by an additional 7 bhp and torque by another 4 Nm. The bike also offers various electronic rider aids such as three power modes, four ride modes (sport, road, urban & wet), engine braking control, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and ride-by-wire technology.

All these features can be managed through a 3.8-inch LCD console. Notably, this model is the first Ducati to offer four levels of ABS, two of which include Slide-by-Brake functionality for powersliding out of corners.

Currently, there are no direct competitors for the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono in India. However, considering its price point, buyers could opt for motorcycles with twin-cylindered or even triple- or four-cylindered engines instead.
