New Triumph Speed T4: Top 5 Things You Need To Know

Triumph has introduced the Speed T4, an entry-level motorcycle priced at Rs 2.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This model is based the Speed 400 but incorporates several cost-saving measures. The T4 features mechanical and equipment differences that distinguish it as a more affordable option.

Noticeable Changes Compared To The Speed 400

The T4 closely resembles the Speed 400 at first glance, but there are notable differences. It uses a simpler telescopic fork and conventional mirrors instead of the Speed's bar-end units. Additionally, the T4 is equipped with an axially mounted front brake caliper and basic gearshift and rear brake levers. The handlebar lacks the sandblasted finish seen on the Speed 400.

Engine Specifications

The engine in the T4 is the same 399cc TR-series motor found in the Speed 400 but tuned differently. While peak output decreases from 40hp and 37.5Nm to 31hp and 36Nm, it offers more torque between 3,500rpm and 5,500rpm than its counterpart. This aligns with Bajaj's focus on low RPM rideability.

Revised Ratios

To enhance this easygoing nature, sprocketing has been adjusted significantly. The rear sprocket now has 39 teeth compared to the previous 43 teeth configuration. The reduction in engine output also led Bajaj to remove traction control, further reducing costs.

Cost-Effective Features

The T4 employs more economical components in several areas compared to the Speed 400. It features cheaper bias-ply MRF Zapper tyres instead of Vredestein radial tyres found on its sibling. Non-adjustable hand levers replace adjustable ones present on the updated Speed model.

Price Difference

These changes contribute to a lower price tag for the T4, making it Rs 23,000 cheaper than the updated Speed 400 which now retails at Rs 2.40 lakh. Despite these cost-cutting measures, Triumph aims to offer a motorcycle that maintains quality while being budget-friendly.

The introduction of Triumph's Speed T4 reflects their strategy to provide an accessible entry-level option without compromising essential features or performance aspects desired by riders seeking affordability combined with reliability.
